David Evans Pictures...

The initial illustration - A Grffin

The initial illustration blacked-in

The final illustration

The final design

Dear Reader,

These illustrations represent the evolution of my new on-screen production credit animatic logo for my company DAVID EVANS PICTURES.  It ends with the rough draft of the animatic with music.  I'm going to change the music but would love to know what you think of the spot.

Post a comment and let me know.

My next post is going to be a comparison of Hemingway's THE GARDEN OF EDEN,

TO HAVE AND HAVE NOT and,

 THE DANGEROUS SUMMER.

Fascinating stuff from a fascinating writer who lived a fascinating life. Check back soon.

Thanks for reading and sign up to follow,

Best,

DME

  1. I like it and I actually like the music that you want to change. The spot is mysterious and inviting. The animal shows a great deal of power (possibly deadly) and clearly possesses the ability to fly.....pretty cool. I do have three concerns:
    1) You have worked your ass off for 20 plus years to build your name and people may want to see 'Mickey' in there as well. It is very distinctive, too.
    2) A lot of your projects are family friendly and the animal depicted could be interpreted to represent darker and edgier fare.
    3) I think the name should be in darker type. It seems to lose a little power and that, my friend, ain't what you're about.
Just thoughts from one of your biggest fans.

  2. Blake,

Yep, you're right. The Mickey is going in there definitely. And I'm hoping a redo of the music will soften the edgier element you mention. I was sort of going for a fossil kind of image -- the Griffin, or Gryphon is actually defined as "Noble Beast," - and the connotation I was hoping for, and maybe I'm stretching here, was discovery of an ancient magical animal.

    Thanks,
